Hi all,

I have to remove rust from a couple of steel beams so they can be assessed by a structural engineer. I believe a needle gun is one way to do it, has anyone ever used one? is it a slow job?

Many thanks

I have never used a needle gun, but a few months back I removed the paint and rust from a large air receiver at work and re-painted it.

I used an angle grinder with a disc similar to this and it removed the paint and the rust easiy- dead link removed

I would have though a portable sand blaster would make light work of it as well.

A twist knot cup brush in a grinder will do the job quickly. It will get quite dusty whichever method yo use though, so remove or at least sheet over anything that matters. It will be quite a bit quieter than a needle gun too.

Goggles, gloves and some substantial clothing will be essential.
