I can only think it will be down to size / resolution.
The most comon cause is if you take a picture that is low resolution. It looks great the size of a postage stamp but if you make it bigger, say 1/2 the size of your screen the detail is just not there and it shows.
It can also be caused by any of the following:

Reduction in colour depth say to 256 colours instead of 16 million. This is done to 'optimise' immages for the web to make them smaller and so quicker to load.

When reducing a picture's resolution say from 1200 pixels wide to 500 pixels wide. This is done for the same reasons as above or to make the picture fit a given space. This most often causes jagged / stepped edges in curve as it the 2 do not divide as a whole number. In this case a picture may look better if made sightly bigger or smaller to an exact multiple of the origional number ie. 1/2 the origional at 600 pixels or 1/3 at 400 pixels.

check that there are no dimensions specifying the size oof the picture, to get a clear picture you need to have the code showing the picture as is - with no code controlling what size it should be, unless you would like it smaller then this would work.

I am a web designer (pro plumber turned designer  ) drop me an email if you are still struggling with it
