water inside back door

Not sure if this topic is in the right place but forgive if not
By my back door that goes directly out onto my decking i have got water coming in-door has been closed so not coming in that way- the decking is just below the door step, now there has been water in before but didnt take any notice due to the fact we was still working inside the extention and i just assumed it was where we were all walking in from the garden (stupid I know) any ideas welcome

could it be that thereis no silicone underneath the step, which if this is the case i need to take up at least 3 decking boards

as i cant see without removing them as they are directly under door step

picture would be handy

have you left a 12mm gap between decking and wall !!
is there a step between door and ground!!
does the decking slope slightly away from the wall!!

what sort off door do you have and was it installed recently!!

ooops not left a 12mm gap
yes there is a step between door and decking
decking does slope away and from left to right

It is double doors opening outwards onto decking and assume fitted correctly and fitted quite a while ago ( extention been on going for a while-long story) there is also a door further up the extention thats for the utility room so will check how thats fitted as this steps down onto slate into garden with about a 4-5in step and no problems at that door.
Big-all even if the decking is not 12mm away water still shouldnt get in if the door is sealed all the way round should it

the 12mm gap allowes the water to drain off the decking ' from down the wall and stops the wood holding water against the wall

is there any gap between the decking boards!!

would i be right in assuming the top off the decking is level or perhaps slighly higher than the door frame bottom edge!!!

there are gaps between the boards and the decking is about 10mm below the ledge/step from the double doors.
I will try and take a picture tonight when i get home but its dark when i get home so will try and put some light onto the area in question

assuming the sill is firmly attached to the frame
the frame is above the surrounding ground/step and theres no dranage holes
then we have to assume the path for the water is via the decking
now this in its own right should only wet the face off the bricks
so i am assuming they didnt bother sealing under the frame

if there is a lip small step between the frame and brick face it should have a morter top with around 7 degree slope to shed the water

Hibgatty,

You really need a lead tray under that door frame, might be a touch hard to retro fit it. you might need to take the frame out.

I've fitted 2 on front doors that were leaking and they are superb!

The 2 part kit consists of a threshold and rain deflector which has 3 heavy duty rubber seals that run the full width of the door. When the door is closed it make a great seal and any water that manages to get past is channeled out the front of the threshold back outside.

Highly recommended. (and no, I'm not on commission!)
