Help! Water leaks through grout.

Post by suddenlysummer »

Dear All,
We had our bathroom tiled recently. Yesterday I found that water is leaking through the grout between a few tiles close to the bath. Can anyone here tell me if I can remove the grout and use sealant between these few tiles? Also what is the best way to remove grouts? Thank you.
Regards,
Summer

Thank you Chris.
After removing grout, can we use sealant instead of grout to fill the gap between tiles?

Shoudn't you be fixing the leak rather than sealing the tiles or am I missing something

Hi Skiking,
When using shower in the bath, water is leaking through the grout. The grout somehow is not water proof

You say you 'had' the bathroom tiled - does this mean you paid someone to do it?
If so drag the toe-rag back round and get them to put it right.

If you do it yourself then use the grout rake (link in chris_h's post) and use a good waterproof grout - sealant will look odd and more than likely discolour / go mouldy in time. Make sure you leave the grout a good 24 hours to dry before getting wet.

Bit odd that a little missing grout is letting is water - whats behind the tiles? Should have a solid bed of adhesive behind the tiles?

Thank you for all you advices.

Saddly two guys did our bathroom have gone with all the money they asked and left us with endless troubles. When I phoned them they promised me to come back but never did. I don't want to upset myself too much by recalling what they did. It's the worst experience.
