I'm hoping someone out there can help. Over the Easter weekend I stripped the wallpaper in my bedroom then painted the walls. A couple of days later a strange smell appeared. It's not a bad smell, almost like a strong lavender plant but a bit citrussy. It also seems to hang around about mid height in the room. I did hang some pictures after the decorating but the nails I used only just penetrated the plaster. I'm at a loss. Has anyone ever experienced this before or could offer any suggestions ? Cheers.

Be gratefull its a pleasant smell

Some paints have 'nice' smells in them to mask the chemical smell, perhaps its this that still lingering

Thanks for the "welcome". I did consider it might be a feature of the paint but it didn't appear until about 5 days after I'd finished which seemed a bit long to me.

Hopefully UHM will move this to the Painting section and you may get a 'pro' opinion on this.

What paint (make/type) did you use ?

UHM ? Sorry, I'm a novice at this.

Paint was just a Dulux matt finish. Nothing special.

no idea, some paints do smell a bit, but normally smell like paint

your smell sounds smells even nice

I would live with it, have you opened a window recently near a lavender plant ??

Did you seal the walls after stripping.

I read somewhere (Could have even been here) that you'll never remove all the wallpaper adhesive from the walls, so it needs to be sealed in. If you don't the paint can react with it (Ususally causing the paint to bubble or blister. The smell could be the reaction.

Also,

Check to see if the wifey has put an electric air freshener in a wall socket somewhere. My partner does that and they stink! Wet paint any day!

It is probably the ghost of the old lady who lived there. She is leaving her scent smell to show her presence. Ask her to pick the lottery numbers for Saturday.

It probably is just the chemical in the paint the sets off this smell as it cures. Yes, I would be happy too that it is a pleasant smell.
