iphone unlocking

l now have a iphone and it's on O2 , can l get this unlocked so l can use my virgin sim card which l have on a monthly payment on ... Someone mentioned it has to be unlocked to do this... Can this be done and if so where would l be able to get this done and how much do you this it would cost to do
