are yuou sure its not just hidden, Windows have an autohide facility that hides the icons, click the arrow to show

or else disable the autohide facility
START->CONTROL PANEL->TASKBAR AND START MENU, select the Taskbar tab and unclick "Hide inactive icons"

Should be an arrow which says show hidden icons if you put the cursor on it.

Bottom right corner.

You will have 3 buttons on the keyboard, to turn the sound up, down or off.

depends on the keyboard scruff.

What you can do is drag the icon to our desk top, e.g

START -> CONTROL PANEL and drag the Sounds and Audio Devices to either your start menu or you desktop.

While your there also make sure that the "Place Volume Icon in Taskbar" checkbox is selected

I turned computer off then started up and it appeared again, the sound icon vanishes only now and again, as i have said not when the computer is on only sometimes after i have restarted the computer . I do not know about dragging as i have said i am a computer virgin ,i only know the very basics learning as i go along thanks for the advice anyway.

Hi DIYGuys

here are some picts that may help you

Pict: Sound Icon
You need to ensure that this checkbox is clicked, its souds like it probably is

Pict: Before - No Sound Icon
This is what scruff and I meant about clicking the arrow (bottom left corner), assuming you have the taskbar on the bottom of the page

Pict: After - Showing Sound Icon
You can see after I click the arrow the sound icon is showing. I have highlighted it in a red box

Pict: Dragging Icon
on any windows icon you can drag it to the desktop i.e you background screen. Thus you have a quick way of accesing that application (or applet)
