drawer set to fit MFI base unit.

Post by jcub »

Hi everyone,
I am having a problem with my DIY, so typed a couple of words into my browser & found this very interesting forum.
I bought some MFI kitchen units from another store after MFI closed down. I bought a nomber of base & wall units, including a 500mm. four door drawer set. That was two or three months ago now. Having now started fitting them, I now find that the packing only includes the fronts, not the drawers themselves. I tried to get them from B&Q, but was informed that their drawer sets would not fit into the MFI base unit as the opening is 8mm. different " thickness of the timber".
The measurements of the opening of my base unit is.... 465mm. wide.
685mm. high. It has four drawer fronts, the bottom one deeper than the other three.
Does anyone know where I can purchase them.

Regards,

jcub.

The way around this is to buy these http://www.screwfix.com/prods/16005/Kit ... m-400-86mm

You make the back and base out of White Melamine chipboard which is cut to suit the width allowing for the runners.

Do the job for you and cheap :thumbright: Screwfix do not have them in at the moment but you can find them on other suppliers by searching.

Thanks for the help dewaltdisney, I will have a look at Screwfix site etc. I just require the runners & drawers to suit the opening in the base unit.

Well that is the point with these drawer kits you make your own base and back panels to attach to the draw sides and runners. They can therefore adjust to any opening required.

Yes, I see what you mean now, but someone must have made drawer units for 500mm cabinets with 18mm thick walls. I suppose the correct drawer would only be a couple of inches wider anyway.

Thanks again,
jcub.

How old is your MFI kitchen. Only, I was under the impression that Shrieber or Hygena were their suppliers prior to them going bust.

Hygena and Schreiber were part of MFI and are in administration. I do not think that they continued as separate going concerns and they are now closed down.

Use the drawer kits, they are a dead easy to make up to suit any opening with basic skills.

Hi Trevor,

I bought the units six months or so ago, after MFI went bust. They were being sold at a store just out of Doncaster called "RANGE" for around a third of the original price. They have been waiting in the garage for the winter to arrive, and it certainly did!!!
I will check out Shrieber & Hygena and see what they can come up with.

Thanks DWD I will do that. I called in Screwfix for some coving today & forgot all about the drawers. Put it down to my age.
