Was talked into buying a HDMI cable the other day to fit between my Sny DVD recoredr and TV replacing the Scart lead.
Everything is fine when I watch TV on it's own digital sinal, but when the DVD is switched on and I try to watch the TV through it or watch a pre-recorded film or recorded programme I only have half a screen.
Can anyone help?
Is there some settings I need to do?
I dont have an 8 year old that can help.

The3 HDMI wont make any difference to the signal that you receive and watch through. I've not come across this one b4 so all I can suggest you try is in the TV or DVD menu make certain teh settings reflect the fact that you check the HDMI box for connection purposes. I dont have a clue if it would make any difference.

In theory the HDMi is just sending the pic and sound in far better quality.

Sorry I could not help more. My HDMI connections from Blu-ray, freesat and dvd are all fine so unable to suggest anything else.

What do you mean 'half a screen' is it just one side (left or right) or is it top or bottom.

Do you have the handbooks for both items?

As Mozzy said, open the menus up for both and look at the Settings.

The picture is positioned centrally with a large gap either side but fills the screen from top to bottom.
Been looking through the destruction books and cant yet see how to make settings.

Sounds like it is set to 4 : 3 ratio instead of widescreen.

On the DVD remote look for the Menu button when the tv is tuned to the DVD, and see how you go from there.

What is the make and model of TV and also DVD?

Have you got the manual for the DVD?
There are some settings for screen resolution on page 139.

I have not got time to read it all but if you do not have the manual you can download it from:

http://safemanuals.com/314159.php?k=201 ... RDR-HXD890

Just click the stars then the download button becaomes active.

I was unable to find a manual for the TV.

I would try changing the screen mode on the TV as I've had a similar problem with a Sony TV in the past. I've had a quick look at the manual for your TV and it should be the button in the middle at the top of your TV remote. The setting is explained on page 15 of the pdf here http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/4127735141.pdf If that doesn't work then check for a similar setting on the DVD.

Thanks fior your help Guys,
Found the setting on page 140 where the DVD was sending 4:3, all I had to do was change it as you said and all is well.
Many thanks again.
