Hi dave there is a new update for internet explorer have you heard , how do you get the new update cheers.

If your computer is set to automatically download and install, it will have probably already got it.
If your settings are any different , such as 'notify me but do not download or install' you will get a popup telling you it is available.

What operating system are you using, because if it is XP you can open Internet Explorer and go to Tools and click on Windows Update.

I take it you have Internet Explorer v8.

To see if you already have it, in XP go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove -> click to show updates and see if KB978207 is showing with tiodays date.

Hi dave its vista basic, got the computer about 9 months back so i dont know what version it is.

Open Internet Explorer and click on Help in the top toolbar. Then click on About IE and it will show you which version you have.

That tip about clicking Help and the About, works for almost all program if you are asked what version of a program you have.

If Vista is like Win 7 then Control Panel -> Programs & Features, then click to View installed updates and look in the list for KB978207. If there, you have been updated, if not get IE to go to Windows Updates.

Also have a look at what your Windows Update settings are.

Dave it says it is 7 ,just checked it has been updated cheers .

In that case get IE 8 from :

http://www.microsoft.com/nz/windows/int ... fault.aspx

and it should update when you install it.

Don't try uninstalling earlier IE versions, the new one will sit on top of the older version.

Pleased to hear it, did you look at what your Windows Update settings were?

I would recommend that you set it to 'Auto Update' if you don't want to be bothered with it. If Windows needs a reboot, it will either ask you or it will finish the install when you shut down at night and complete it on boot up next morning. But that will be done automatically.

'Notify me but do not download' means that you will get a popup telling you updates are available (usually late on the second Tuesday of the month, or teh Wednesday morning afterwards). But it means you have to click to see what they are and then download them and install them.

It would also be worth enabling Microsoft Update so you get updates for other Microsoft software on your computer, e.g. Office. On XP you can do this by loading IE, then Tools -> Windows Update. On the Windows Update page there should be a link to install Microsoft Update. Vista and Win 7 users can go to Control Panel -> Windows Update. There will be an options to "Get updates for other Microsoft products".
