Thin Wall

Hello

I want to install a shower in the bathroom, probably with large tiles. However someone has said for large tiles the wall has to be strong.

This has made me wonder about the wall because I know that the hall side of the wall is an old wooden tongue and groove wall with plasterboard over the top. The bathroom side is plasterboard with 1/2 inch vertical struts between the 2 sides.

I don't particularly want to replace the whole wall. Is there any way of strengthening it perhaps from one side?

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,
You could strip the internal plasterboard and run some 2X2 (50mmX50mm) timber vertically with noggings inbetween then cover with Aquaboard to tile onto.

Post a pic, how big is the wall to be tiled?

You could stiffen it up by screwing aquapanel to it.
