Hi,

Can anybody offer advice regarding laptops please, currently we have a home PC set-up at home, but i was thinking of getting a laptop for the kids to share for there schoolwork, facebook and other applications that seem to hog the computer all night.
Can anybody recommend any cheap brands or sites were they can be brought (i have seen quite a few on the net but always best to get a recommendation)

Thanks in advance

I've had 2 acer aspire laptops from these guys: http://www.tier1online.com/Category/9/Laptops one was new one was referbished. No problems with either as such. (had to change the cooling fan on one recently which required a COMPLETE strip down but I have had it 3 years)

For years all I would buy is Toshiba laptops, well made and never go wrong in my experience. Some people are of the opinion that acer laptops have quality issues and the customer service is poor.

Ebuyer has been the best place for me so far. Very well priced.

PC World will do a few decent refurbs for under £300 or a brand new one for a few ££ more.

Either will give you a decent laptop for a decent price that will suit your needs.

I have had 1 Toshiba (never again), it was crap and the motherboard went after a few months.

I now have two acers, and i love them :thumbright:

I'd highly recommend the Acer's

Funny how different people can rate the same brand so differently.

I have to agree that Toshiba tend to be quite good. I think Chez must have been unlucky.

Sony are over-priced for what you get.

HP/Compaq also build good laptops.

I've had the HP Pavillion for years.

The screen went about 24months ago, probably the ribbon, but I always use it on a large Dell monitor anyway.

No good if I take it out the office, but I have the MacBook Pro for that.

Dell Outlet is my suggestion. Loads of choice and quite cheap. Very good warranty - first laptop had motherboard problem and dell dude came out to my house to replace it. No problems since.

PC World are awful if you get a problem. PC World can PC off.
