Created false wall in bathroom - ready to tile (or not ?)

Donkeys years ago I created a false wall in the bathroom to hide water pipes etc, put some battens on the wall and (wait for it) covered the battens with hardboard prior to tiling. Actually the tiles have remained in place very well considering but the time has come for me to re tile and I need some sdvice on what to replace the plywood with prior to re-tiling.

what ever you used, if theres a shower on the wall id recommend 12mm hardibacker otherwise 12.5mm MR plasterboard will do!

if using MR, would you recomending tanking (if a shower) for the OP Marc.

My view is that it will set you back £50, takes little time and you have piece of mind fror years later

Actually here is a mistake I made when tiling. As you are puting up new board, might be a good opportunity to add some built in shelves.
