Grout for a shower cubicle

Post by Stella »

Hi

My shower cubicle has become a little grotty and so I intend re-grouting it.

The tiles are quite large and so it should be quite easy. But having look at at the many different types of grout available I was confused :?

I once tried ready mixed and it was very poor, what do you guys use?

Is the acrylic based one any good?

I only need a plain white one, not coloured.

Thanks

ready mixed stuff is rubbish.

Use a powder grout, Howtex or Bal are good brands, personally I also have used Aquafug, Granfix and Unibond which are ok too. How wide are the grout joints if they are over 4mm you will need wide joint grout.

I would go to your local independant tile shop, who will be able to advise you on what they have.

Remember, If it's a stud wall then a flexible grout should be used.

BAL white wall grout is usually good enough, but grout discolours for a reason, usually lack of ventiliation over any other.

If you don't have any extraction, then fitting a fan will save having to regrout as well as keeping things a lot cleaner in the room.

Thanks Guys,

I'll get some BAL grout.

There is no extractor fan in the bathroom, I normally open the window and I always wipe the tiles dry with a cloth. It has taken 15 years for the grout to go discoloured and so I guess I can't complain!
