I am helping my Daughter, and soon to be Son-in Law, convert a Bedroom into a Bathroom in an Old victorian Terraced house. All of the walls except the party wall are lath & plaster, most of which is in a pretty poor state.
It will contain a roll top bath,toilet,corner shower cubicle and hand basin.

We would ideally like to over board the whole room with damproof backer boards, have the room skimmed by a plasterer and then tile it.
This is looking to be very expensive as we will require 23 1250 x 600 boards just to do the walls. Any advice on what to actually do would be appreciated as they have a very tight budget and want it to last without tiles falling off.

remove the athes and plaster! board the room with M/R plasterboard except where the shower cubicle will be do that area in hardibacker! do not skim any boards that are going to be tiled as bare plasterboard will support more weight that skimmed plasterboards. this will bring the cost down somwhat!
