Deleted Favourites return

Here's a puzzler.
Wanting to clean up my list of favourites in IE, I deleted a long list of Favourites. They disappaeared and then next time I returned to the computer they were all back again. I tried closing down after deletion and restarting but it didn't make any difference.
I deleted them using Organise Favourites in IE.
I have done it now 3 times and every time the deleted Favourites have returned.
What am I missing?

Deleting the names in the Favorites list only deletes the link to the favorites folder.
To remove them, you need to delete the items in the folder:
Rather than paste it all, have a look at this link:

http://www.computeractive.co.uk/compute ... s-internet

Not sure which operating system you have , XP or Vista or Win 7, but read the instructions first. It is for XP but for Vista the difference is at the bottom of the page.

Wineo,
In Win 7 That only takes you to a Favourite window with Desktop, Downloads and Recent Places in it.

You have to go into the C: Username list to get to the IE Favorites.

Thanks Gents.
That seems to have done the trick.

If I want to delete anything from my favourites list I just right click on it and then delete it! So I'm puzzled by what seems to be a long drawn out solution, or am I missing something?.. Although I must admit I'm very non techy, so I probably did miss something....

Gadget,

If you do that, do you get a confirmation window up asking if you want to remove the shortcut?

Because the name in your favourites list is just that, it is just a shortcut to the actual website address (URL) that is held in Documents and Settings User folder.

It is similar to deleting a shortcut on your desktop, you do not remove the actual program, just the link to it.

Why the shortcuts to the Favourites kept repopulating the Favourites list is a mystery to me, but the only way to stop it happening, as he wanted the items removed was to delete them from the User folder.

Gadget,
That is the way it should have worked for Laird.
Doing that justs removes the shortcut and the actual url will still be available in the My Documents and Settings -> Username -> Favorites Folder.

As I said earlier, I have no idea why Laird kept getting them coming back into his Favourites list in IE.

Well, it has solved the problem. No more repopulating.
