Dragged a half used tub out of the shed that I used for the kitchen tiling job 18 months ago... it seemed alright (wasn't dry or anything like that) so I started using it on my bathroom refurb epic...

Some tiles haven't stuck properly and after 36 hours a couple came away without much effort.

Am I being a tight @rse and ought to buy some fresh adhesive? Or should it really be ok?

Frost damage comes to mind.

Bin it and buy new, or do the job twice.

Not at all because I would look at doing the same, but not worth the risk if it's suspect.

The inclination drops off when the tiles end up on the floor.

I have done the same with plaster, paint, silicone etc. DIYer never really uses it enought and lots just sit about for years. Create more work in the long run.

I few months ago I mixed up some finishing plaster, 5 minutes and it was hard Bag had been there for about 9 months

The same with sand in the shed 6 months when you try to use it you get hard lumps of sand . The amount of times i have kept stuff thinking that will come in handy then go to use it and is fkd.

Ready mixed addy is only suitable up to a maximum tile size as it dries with air. So if your tiles are too big for ready mixed, then it is possible to pull them off easily after two or three days.

Thats interesting royal,what would the max size tile using ready mixed you could use do you think.

Most manufacturers recommend that 200x250mm tiles are maximum size that ready mixed can be used with.

porcelein tiles sholuld also be bedded onto bagged adhesive and not onto ready mixed.

I never understand buy people use ready mix adhesive, its easy to mix it up. Paddles are cheap too!

Guess it just looks like too much work from the onset or people think its just as good.

I have done a bit of tiling and i am guilty of using the ready mixed stuff that can be used as grout also,not a good idea but tiling is a pain in the arze the best of times so the quicker i do it the better and i hate grouting.

agree totally..under 300mm ok.. over....bagged addy
again also depends on type off tile.

Absolutely and tile type can also dictate colour of adhesive that should be used.
