Cutting 10mm Porcelain Tiles?

Post by Dodgy DIY? »

Hi all,
1st post.

I'm just about to start tiling my bathroom (and this site has been very helpful in helping me with a few questions already-without posting).
The tiles i'm using are 10mm Porcelain and was wondering what you guys use for cutting them? Thicker than i've used before.

Thanks for any advice.

On my travertine tiles, I used a diamond disc on a grinder.

Hi and welcome :welcome:

If they are smooth tiles a normal scribe type cutter will cut them-

If they are textured or not smooth you can cut them with a diamond wheen cutter-

And these are useful if you need to cut a square in a tile- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzYdv3PXNbo

If you are getting a cheapo disk cutter get a spare blade or two with it as the one it comes it is always rubbish. Mine made about 3 cuts and it was knackered

thank all for your suggestions. i already have an electric disc cutter which tends to leave the edges a little chipped. Is there a reason for this? could my disc need replacing?

The tile i'm using has a smooth texture, so will buy a manual cutter tomorrow for all the straight cuts.

Mine does the same, get a decent blade and try not to push the tile too quick into the disk.

Perhaps if you score the tile first it may help with a cleaner cut, dunno
