Can the edges to the tiles on a window sill be cut at 45 degrees so you don't need trim? I've been looking on the internet and it seems every one uses trim.

Yes, you will need a wet cutter to mitre them.

You can also ask the shop where you bought them if they are also available as 'jolly tiles'. probably won't be as you get a lot of breakages with them, but you never know your luck.

have either of you done this? and can you post a picture of the wonderful effect.

To be honest, my clients have never wanted it done. They either have trims or I set tiles back so I can grout at 45 degrees to form a frame. Old fashioned way of doing it, but looks good. Well, looking good is subjective, I liked it when I first saw it as a child and clients like it.

Doing your own jolly tiles will look good too, just take your time. Might be a pain in the arris but in a years time you can look back and be glad you spent that extra time.

Works well with a decent cutter on porcelain, but I've never seen it done on ceramics. Post the results if you have the technology to do so

I've decided to go for trim - I've attached a pic of my best effort. I even replaced the blade for a Titan (as recomended by another thread). It seems these tiles are not playng ball here.

main thing is, you had a go at doing it. better to know it didn;t work out, than not bother at all.

That is the result I was expecting really. Shame cos it looks a nice tile finish and would look good mitred if only it would behave.

A tile file may have helped produce a smooth result on that edge.

If you have the tile I'd, just to see how it would look, would get hold of a file and have a go.

It's a process that needs time, it's usually in the prep work but the final result is worth it.

If you do try it lets have a look at the result, to file, lock the tile in a vice/workmate, file from the front to the back following the cut line. If you have the face of the tile facing you you would stroke down the cut line and along the whole tile to maintain square, once smooth, it may sell be sharp just a smooth off flat along the sharp to take the edge off.

If you use a wet stone you could polish the cut like glass.

I suspect you could produce an edge but it would be weak and probably dangerously sharp even if you could
