Double Glazing being installed, Quality questionable??

Hi All,
I'm in the process of having double glazing installed.
We are concerned by the quality of the work. There seem to be many gaps and untidy edges in the work.
Would this be normal at this stage and is it normal for these joins to be filled using silicone or
should they be exact and more tidy in the first place?
Please see attached pictures:
We've been told all these issues will be fixed before the job is complete, mainly with silicone? Is this normal?

You say the work is still in progress, so is more work to be done?...........If not, then I would say don't pay a penny at all.

Just about normal practice for a lot of them........Hide with expanding foam, trims and silicone.
Although on the side of fairness, even if trims are the best ever fitted in the existence of the universe, they would still have silicone beads applied anyway.

Yep, They've not finished the Job yet. The company owner has reassured me that all this would be fixed. I've email him the same set of pictures and he is going around tomorrow to have a word
with the fitters. We've not paid a penny yet and wont be if this isn't fixed.
If filling in gaps with foam, silicone is standard practice maybe that's just how it is?

I said, normal practice for a lot of them. Doesn't mean thats good or acceptable. have to weigh it up with how much the job is worth. Cheap quote, cheap job in a lot of cases. dear quote then I would be a trifle pi55ed off.
haven't a clue if those windows are good quality or not. haven't fitted them for years but when I did, I would only use Rehau.

Mate pictures 1 2 3 4 5 tell me those windows have not been measured to the right size. They obviously didn't take proper measurments for the windows to be built, they actualy look like generic shop bought stock. I suguest you call CAB and see what your rights about this are because that isn't anywhere near a decent job and if they dont refit those windows to take the gaps out and just fill them with expanding foam and silicon you will have problems with rotting later.

I'm not a window fitter..but I've had doubleglazing fitted in previous property and this one, using local, recommended companies....
...at no time during fitting of any of these windows did I see gaps like that!!!
(Though at the last propery there was some damage to the plasterboard when removing the old windows)
The trims have been badly cut and fitted..the upright trim in pic 1/2 should run the full height on the internal bay.
As advised above...Don't pay up until the job is done properly..
If you are in any doubt about the poor quality of the work, get round to a friend or two, who have had d/g fitted...and have a game of "spot the difference"
Keep posting on here so we can advise what to do if your fitter refuses to put right....

I wouldn't expect too much in terms of precision joinery and crisp edges when it comes to upvc fitters to be honest. It's rare to see a upvc window fitted without copious quantites of silicone and a multitude of trim pieces. As long as the openers open and the water stays outside that's about as much as you can expect from UPVC. (until the sun shines and then it'll sag anyway).

OK then...whilst you may not expect a perfect fit those gaps are unacceptable...the trims are badly cut...have a look at what has been done here for a better job..Not saying perfect...but as the moustachiod man says...Go Compare

I'm not saying it should be so, I'm just saying it's fairly commonplace to have 2" plastic trim strips clumsily siliconed around the edge to hide the out of square brickwork to window join. These are after all window fitters, not master craftsmen. Clearly some companies will take more pride in their work than others. You pays your money...

nothing surprises me with double glazing and it isn't always the fitters fault.
Worked for a couple of firms for oooh about 3 weeks all told. Naff surveyors and it was expected for fitters to just overcome problems such as fanlights not opening fully because they hit tiles to bay. Cutting and bodging bay window boards because angles were all wrong. bodging this, bodging that.
Only time I have ever enjoyed doing double glazing was the few houses I have done privately.

Bit like "Through the Keyhole"...who lives in a house like this....
some-one who's about to get seriously ripped off ??
To every-one who has posted above saying .."Par for the course"
I wouldn't accept it...if I'd done it myself
