Pine Kitchen Table
I had a friend to build me a table out of 2X12 pine boards. The problem is he put polyurethane on a test board and I don't like it. We would like to add a little color and really bring the wood grain and knots out. Do anybody have any suggestions?

Its going to take a bit of work, but you can lightly sand the table and apply a coat of a top grade primer to it. I would probably use X-I-M as a primer on your table. After it drys, you can then apply a good oil based enamel of your choice, or you can just paint over the whole thing, but you will have a dark rich color.

mmm 2x12" if he has use 12" planks your going to get a lot of movement
whenever you treat wood it will tone down
the basic trick is to wet the area with saliva this will give you a rough idea what clear coating will do
your table within a year or two untouched will tone down to an antique pine colour [without the yellowing ]
the use of oil based varnishes will cause yellowing waterbased [accrylic ]wont
