Graphics card problems
Hi,
My friend has a modern pc, not sure of the complete spec but it is only about 18 months old. It has a radeon 9200 128 mb graphics card in it. Every now and again the screen goes blank, but this is not the only fault! Yesterday she tried to install battle middle earth 2, the computer is well above the recommended specs for playing the game, but once installed it restarts the computer. I am thinking this is either a fault with the graphics card itself or the power supply. My gut feeling is the graphics card, I have had a quick look on the net and the radeon 9200 gets slated by lots of people.
Has anyone any ideas or suggestions please?
Thanks

Hi,
It would be a good idea to test the graphics card in someone elses PC and see if any similar faults occur. You will have to ensure that their power supply can cope with the extra demand of running the graphics card or the pc will crash/restart.
I have just had a quick look on google for the redeon 9200 and it gets slated of most people!
Hope this helps

Try downloading the latest drivers from here
If it continues, take a look in Event Viewer to see if it tells anything about whayt happened just before the freeze up.
Right-click My Computer and select Manage. Click the + to the left of Event Viewer, then click once each on Applications and System. Look in the right pae for any Errors with a red X. Double-click on the Eror and it will bring up a box with an error code and a link to more information.

I went to the windows update site and updated and then installed the newer drivers. I then tried the game again and it did exactly the same thing. There was a post somewhere about Battle for middle eart 2 having copy protection on it that conflicts with DVD burning software and so I removed that, but it is just the same!!!!
It looks like I may have to take the game back
My computer monitor is also playing up, when I play games it often goes blank despite the computer still wotking and sound is still coming from the speakers. I have to restart the pc to get the screen to come back on!
I had the power supply and graphics card changed last year as they were originally faulty.
Has anyone any ideas ???
Thanks

Your monitor cutting out also points to a graphics card problem.
Do you have the same one? Download the latest drivers.
Also make sure on-board graphics is switched off.
You'll need to go into the BIOS to do this, usually by pressing the F2 key as your computer starts up. You should see a brief message telling you which key.
