I have a few questions about buying a new kitchen on a budget. I've seen some doors at B&Q called "slab white gloss" and they keep coming on offer at around 75% off, well anyway, to cut a long story short, this means that the doors will cost about 120 ish as opposed to £450+ at top whack. My first question is this, have any of you used these doors, and how are they? Any staining, do they mark/scratch easily etc? I'm not expecting miracles for the price, but if they are garbage then I'll look elsewhere.
Also, the carcasses that B&Q sell for these, are they decent or is there an alternative? Same for the hinges too, and the bits that make up the drawers.
Finally, a local kitchen fitter has quoted me £800 labour to:
- Remove/replace sink, 800 carcass underneath, 600 drawer set, refit new worktop.
Add 1x 500 wall unit
Add 1x 300 wall unit
Add 1x 600 chimney extractor between the two above units
- 5x 500
2x 400
1x 600x900
2x 300
- Fit new drawer fronts and runners to new carcass
Fit 14x handles to new doors
Bespoke boiler cabinet (see the 600x900 door above), basically this is just 3 bits of gloss white panel and a door, a simple construction.
Fit 3x end panels to the floor cupboards.
Fit 4x end panels to the wall units.
Fit cornice and pelmets to 4x wall cupboards top and bottom, 1x 500, 1x 300, 2x 1000.
Fit plinths - 3x
Fit some small bits of gloss white board to hide gaps etc
Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks :)
Edit: I'm in Manchester by the way, in case the prices vary up and down the country.
