Very nice job, CR. Watch those ducks don't breed or there will be no room in the bath for anyone.

Wonder want the white tiles were for where the shower curtain met the tiles in the 'Before' picture. Had they run out of black ones?

The old bathroom leaked like a sieve and many 'attempts' to repair it by others failed. I think what happened is there was a shower screen before and when they tried to remove it, it took the tiles with it. So they infilled with white tiles, put up a shower curtain then siliconed a piece of trunking to the bath to divert water, classy ::b

You nob, I was looking at the first pic for ages and thinking hhhmmmmm bath panel is a bit cack, whats the white go faster stripe up the wall and a few other things. then I noticed it was a before pic ::b

Another nice looking job.

Bit of a bugger that the bath screen is so near the vanity unit and they have to lean round to use the hand shower, but then some of them are like that. the last few I have had it has worked that way. Not fond of it but sometimes there isn't an alternative.

Only thing I would have done was to bring the pipes for the towel rail out of the wall rather than the floor. Although that is another thing that relies on the client wanting to pay a little extra.

have to whack my last one in now ha ha....................Another flipping white walled wonder.

You're the third person to see the before pics and thought I had done it! ::b

The whole room was stripped and re-boarded, I did toy with the idea of coming out the wall with the tails but as I had to rebuild part of the studwork I opted for two studs positioned to fix the towel rail to. This is a picture of the wall in question, amazingly the problem was there when the last bathroom was fitted and instead of sorting it out they bonded the wall out to try and lose it but it was still very noticeable, then tiled over! To make matters worse a few years later the owners had a shower room fitted on the other side of the wall, as one side of the wall was now tiled they couldn't sort the wall out and had to build a false wall (not very well) in front making the shower room even smaller than it was ::b

If you see a problem, just sort it out!

Here was the split. It's one of the worse i've seen from natural shrinkage (on stud work), it protruded the wall by a good 2 inches

The feature tiles are in fact 600x200 (cut down to 400x200 apart from the full tiles you can see in the middle of the bath panel) The tiles are factory scored into 300x50 moasic so when the whole thing is grouted it looks like individual liner mosaics.

Just a tip with these type tiles, One of the biggest mistakes made with these type of full tiles made to look like moasic, are people using the wrong spacers with them. I hope I can explain this well enough...

The scores in the tiles will normally be 2mm (but can be anything), now most people would grap a 2mm spacer and set the tiles thinking that when grouted it will give them a 2mm grout line that matches the score, WRONG! Tiles are very rarely perfectly square, they will have a slight shoulder to them, I'm talking about the thickness of the tile here, meaning the back of the tile is ever so slightly bigger than the face of the tile. What this means is that when you insert a 2mm spacer between tiles, by the time you grout, the grout line is closer to 3mm. But remember those 2mm scores? they will be perfect 2mm grout lines so when you look at the wall you can pick out each individual larger tile, this gives the game away when it comes to 'fake' mosaics. What you should do is either place the 2mm spacer near the front of the tile rather than push it right to the back or better still get yourself some tile wedge spacers and set the tiles to give you perfect 2mm grout lines.

Very striking result, and useful info about tile spacing.

On another point. why are bathrooms provided with low level windows? The occupant can't see out because of the obscured glazing, and it does often adversely affect the layout of the room. At least it did with my bathroom refurb.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

the tiles are 600 wide by 200 tall but because they are scored, once grouted they look like 4 x 600 x 50 linear mosaic on each tile (Sorry ment 600 x 50 not 300 x 50  )

Most modern house won't but as in the case with this house and a lot of refurbs, it never had a 'bathroom' when it was built, it would have had a cast iron tub in front of a fire. So that room would have had other uses, hence the low level.

The window is not ideal because of the shower position but the whole area was tanked and sealed so I'm not worried about water ingress and when you stand in the shower area you are just about covered by the wall so people can't see you from outside.

It can be a pain designing rooms around windows and you have the option of making them smaller but in this case it wouldn't have gained much. I changed the layout as it's better and allowed me to install an 1800x800 bath instead of the 1500x700 that was in there before. One of the guys living there is over 6ft tall so a small bath just wasn't an option.

You can leave an access panel, one of the nicest ways is with a magnetic panel, you tile over it but instead of grouting you silicone round the tile(s) in question so if you need access you simply cut the silicone, remove and then re silicone when done.

It's always good practice to leave spare tiles under the bath too, so if anybody does have to make alterations they have spare tiles to hand

This is an example of a magnetic panel
