Screw 'U'

Post by stevemastic »

I have to thank panlid for puting me on to these
I always used to use gold screw & the quick silver range but after using Reisser r2 & the r2 cutter range I am converted  they do cost a little more and the extra few pence per box is well worth it, as they drive very near to the edge of the work, no pilot hole & most important no cam out ever. There is a test in the sf catalogue with the turbo gold being the best, but I find when you remove a turbo gold (for what ever reason  ) the thread pitch is full of timber, where the r2 is nearly always clean. give one box a whirl on your next job & report back :thumbright:

yes I bought a box of 4.0 x 25 the other day from howdens and didnt even realise

i wanted some gold coloured screws for brass hinges, I use quick silver normally.

I didnt have any problems using them, but then I dont have any problems with standard quick silver

i dont have a problem with quick silver either but were talking about ease of use. i think there is quite a gap between quality of the QS and the R2 imo. obviously tim feels different. if there was one standard then there would only be one screw!
i remember when i converted to R2. i gave my apprentice a mix and told him to put some ply down and use whatever he prefered. i still have boxes of QS left that i will probably never use unless doing chrome hinges or the like.
remember to not use them externally steve.
i have also started to use spax and they are another step up.

i am aware of the limitations of QS and use them accordingly, when screwing ply down i have a box of spax screws and agree they are much better than QS for starting and pulling the head in.

The biggest change however I found was when I got an impact driver, this makes putting screws in so much easier

I've started buying spax in bulk to try & get the cost down, but there is no way I could go back to using quick silver.

Had a job recently, labour only (on a price), large areas of ply flooring to go down & he had supplied quick silver screws, it was more cost effective in labour terms for me to supply spax screws and swallow the cost.

I only ever use turbogolds as they are excellent

Turbogold screws are also UHM approved

I like Turbogold too, I've also tried a box of Spax torx head floorboard screws which were fantastic, if only all screws were torx :-)
