Hanging kitchen wall cabinet from stud partition
I'm fitting a corner wall cabinet in the kitchen and have encountered a stud partition directly in line with the position i had planned to fit the hollow wall anchor.
Is there any particular screw i could fit directly into the partition? I've looked at self-tapping screws but haven't found anything longer than about 50mm at the main DIY places. Would this be sufficient? Or is there anything better, like a coach screw, etc?

Hi i8diy,
A 75mm (3inch) 10 would be safe. Obviously fixing into a stud is preferable to plasterboard fixings!

Re: Hanging kitchen wall cabinet from stud partition
The stud is wooden. A wood screw with a countersunk head won't work because the cabinet will simply slip off the fitting.
I really need a round headed screw like a self tapping screw but i can't find any that are longer than about 50mm. Will this be long enough to hold the weight of one corner of a wall cabinet if there is a hollow wall anchor supporting the other corner? Or would it be better to use something more substantial like a coach screw?

Re: Hanging kitchen wall cabinet from stud partition
Will a 5 x 50mm wood screw be strong enough? Plasterboard is about 12mm thick, stud partition is directly behind. Allowing for about 8mm sticking out to hang the corner of the cabinet on, that only leaves about 30mm of screw in the partition. Will that be secure?speed wrote:you mean thers is a timber where you need to fix? just screw a woodscrew in, a 2" 10 screw ( 5 x 50mm in metric)

100% off fittings for kitchen cabinets will be designed to be used with wood screws or to hang on fittings secured by wood screws

It's NOT 'dot and dab'. Will you please stop confusing the issue!big-all wrote:ok you need to cut out and use spacers as you are describing dot and dab

I'm a bit confused by these cabinet fittings. All the one's I've fitted worked fine with normal csk woodscrews.

Perhaps if you explain what you are trying to do better, the experts wouldn't be confused.i8diy wrote:It's NOT 'dot and dab'. Will you please stop confusing the issue!big-all wrote:ok you need to cut out and use spacers as you are describing dot and dab
For a starters, a wood screw into an wooden upright with be 10 x stronger than a cavity fixing.

Re: Hanging kitchen wall cabinet from stud partition
You mean the sort of 'expert' who doesn't know the difference between 'dot and dab' and plasterboard that's fixed to a STUD PARTITION?! I only mentioned it three times, perhaps that wasn't enough.thescruff wrote:Perhaps if you explain what you are trying to do better, the experts wouldn't be confused.
