l'm putting sealant around the bath and would like to know if anyone can tell me the best tape to use as l want to make a neat sealant finish... l've tried masking tape on the tiles and bath and it will not stick very good and starts peeling away before l can put the sealant on.. Are there any tapes intended for this job, or any that will stick ..

You don’t need tape; there are various sealant applicator tools that make a very neat job, much better than a nasty wet finger. There is one call fungenboy on screw fix that is very good. It will put a neat edge and scrape off any access from the tiles. It takes a little bit of trial and error to get the amount of sealant right; otherwise you end up with a big blob on end of the tool. You also have to angle it so you don’t necessarily follow the grout line. But when you do you get a very nice finish

I have seen others in B&Q that look fine also.

I always think its a shame when you get a nice bathroom installed you let it down at the last minute with a nasty sealant line

Just checked, the Fungenboy seems to be gone now from screwfix but available on the web

I have always used masking tape, clean then buff both surfaces making sure they are dry and not too cold, some grades of tape are better but even the cheapest works ok. Take your time with the masking, apply silicone, wipe with your pinkie then remove the tape asap.

Running joints in with a finger might be ok for a novice working on their own house but totally unacceptable when it is being charged for.

Using an old credit card, you can cut one of the corners to any shape you would like the profile to be.
Always tilt it forward in the direction you are scraping, that way it will glide over the recess between each tile without dipping into the gap where the grout is.

Many ways to do it. As already advised, Fungi tools, credit card...............make a stick from timber, a whittled ice lolly stick, plasplugs do a set of tools. A decent sealant gun and also quality sealant makes a huge difference. Instead of applying the sealant by pulling the gun away from the start point as you apply the sealant, have your start point and push the gun so that you are smoothing as you apply.

I always mask windows & bathrooms, but if masking tape won't stick to your tiles, make sure they are fully degreased/de-scummed lol, as if the tape won’t stick, it’s a good indicator that the tiles aren't "clean"so the silicone wont either.
P.S
I was told years ago, to mask up, rub the bath gently with wire wool, clean off & remask.

I use those and they are a most excellent addition to a tool box. I used to use small offcuts of timber formed to shape but rarely use that method now.
