One way lighting

Post by gjacques »

Hi,
I have a one way light switch and flourecent ceiling light that i want to replace with a pendant type light fitting.
The switch and lighting have plastic trunking that runs the wires from the switch to the flourecent light fitting. When taking the flourecent light down will there be a ceiling rose connection in place already so that i can connect the new fitting up? And how do i get around the probelem of the trunking will i have to extend it to the fitting to make the connection or would it be better to feed the wire up into the ceiling and back down to the light fitting. I have five of these to do and i dont really want to be knocking all the ceiling out.

Thanks for any help.

It's unlikely that there will be a ceiling rose, the wires are normally terminated into connector strips inside of the flourescent, to make a neat job of it you could re-route the wires into the ceiling space.

You need to remove the cover from the flourescent and take a look because the neutral may be in the switch rather then at the flourescent. If this is the case it will be much easier to fit a ceiling rose.

Your lights could be wired up like this- Image

There is more here on lighting circuits that may help- http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/diy/e ... wiring.htm

If you need any more help please ask

Thanks for the advice very helpfull. If i choose not to bury the wires into the ceiling how would i extend the trunking up to the ceiling rose or light fitting for a neat job. Is there a ceiling rose part that would have a knock out to take trunking.
Thanks

You can buy a ceiling rose adaptor like this one and fit it before the ceiling rose-
