Hi
Have been trying to do a bit of DIY over this break, laying floor and new toilet etc
Have 2 holes to drill, to secure toilet to porcelain floor tiles, on concrete floor
Looking for a cheap drill bit which guess will not be used again, toilet did come with floor fixings but believe they were 12mm maybe bigger. Dont fancy trying to drill this big and crack the pan!
JUst looking to drill maybe 7mm hole through toilet base holes and secure with rawl plugs and 2 1/2 inch screws? Does this sound ok and then silicone base?
Have tried with a decent tile drill bit but dont get anywhere, but understand i need a diamond one, which appear really pricey for 2 holes
Also should i get clear or white silicone for the base, floor is black and walls are white
Thanks in advance

royaloakcarpentry - Its just a close coupled toilet.
speed - thought they had to be diamond tipped not normal bits, my usual ones dont work
Found a diamond drill bit on ebay Dewalt DT6039 7mm Diamond Tile Drill Bit £13, but would this drill through the concrete ok?
Thanks

What type of drills have you tried? I've done something similar in the past, using a 10mm drill through the tile, then very carefully with an 8mm masonry bit afterward. Looks less than perfect, but ok under a concealed fitting.

If it's a porcelain tile the only way to drill it is with a drill intended for porcelain, (that's why they make them cos nothing else will really do it), once through the tile a standard SDS masonry bit will be best to drill the concrete.

Put toilet into position and mark position of holes onto the floor. buy an Armeg drill bit suitable for porcalein from screwfix, cost about £20 or so. move toilet out of the way and drill tile, then drill concrete with masonry bit. Put toilet back and screw down, using brass or stainless screws.
If you have fixing blocks for the toilet then put toilet into position and draw around it, then fix the blocks into position. Toilet back and fix.
Finish off with white silicone around the toilet and floor. Dow Corning 785 also available at screwfix. Don't skimp with any other cheap alternative silicone.

royaloakcarpentry- Thanks for your help again. However should i drill 11mm hole as kit supplied or just go with a smaller 7mm brown rawl plug

What kit was supplied with the toilet............plug and screw with cap or plastic fixing blocks and screw with cap.

M3....................Sacramento, just had a peek on the site. The hand polishing pads are less than half the price for 7 compared to what Nichols and Clark charger for 2.
The hole saws are very cheap also.
Have you used much of there stuff or just the drill bits?
