Office 2010 is mega and pro plus - they work quite well together when a deadline is rapidly approaching!

I use MS Works which is comes with Works Word Processor, Works Spreadsheet, Database, Calendar and Portfolio which is good enough for me.

Did notice that Amazon are doing this Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Student, 3 Users (PC ) for £78 for three licences. Not bad if you have a couple of computers and a friend who could use the third one.

I have just downloaded the latest Open Office but am not using it yet, just playing to try out what I can do with it.

home and student doesn't come with Outlook - and is not for commercial use.

i can recommend mozilla thunderbird as your email program, i use it as i have a gmail account & a sky account which uses gmail as well

I understand it's quite a capable app, not used it myself for a while. I'm 100% MS though, got the sticker on my arse to prove it!

not something i'd admit to Billy i'm still using WinXP but use firefox or chrome as my browser, thunderbird for email

Hmmm. Maybe not as simple as I thought.

Although Outlook 2010 is installed and working ok, my pc doesn't seem to realise that Outlook is installed, therefore I can't sync with my PDA

Got some more details of the problem? What version of Windows are you using too?

If it's 7 (or Vista too, I think) have you checked outlook is the default mail app?

Start > Control panel > Default Programs - change email to Outlook 2010 and restore app defaults.

I use it at work and home. I've been very impressed. It's good to see that Outlook has had the full ribbon treatment, where in 2007 it was half done.

I've now spent all evening downloading the 2010 office time and again, in case it had got corrupted, but still no joy.

I'm on win 7 pro, 64bit, office 2010 64bit and everything is working a ok except, even though I've followed your guide and set outlook as default email prog, my pc still refuses to accept that I have outlook 2010 installed, hence my pda can't find it and won't sync

I am now. for tonight, after a couple of cans of stella, and a whole bottle of bacardi, going to give up for now

God knows why my pc doesn't recognise Outlook 2010 is installed, because I dont/cant work it out.

I bought the academic version, for £38 all in. Could this be something to do with the problems?

The problem may be related to the Office 2010 64bit. I wouldn't recommend the 64bit version of Office 2010 unless you need to work with Excel spreadsheets that contain over 2GB of data. This may seem strange as you're using Windows 7 64bit, but it's due to the way Office handles addins. The 64bit version of Office requires 64bit addins and very few manufactures have 64bit versions of their addins available. Uninstall the 64bit version, try the 32bit version and see how you get on.

I forgot to say... If you need to install any software for your PDA, reinstall it after you've installed Office 2010 32bit and check that it's compatible with Office 2010.

I've spent 1 hour on the phone to MS support this afternoon but after they done many a strange thing to my pc, it hasn't helped.

What my basic pea brain cannot understand is forgetting my pda etc, ms mobile itself will not recognise outlook.

I'm left with the only option as you have advised and that is to install the 32 bit version and try it.

I will do that now

Installed 32 bit and all is back to normal

Now, after an hour on the phone to bombay microsoft, why the f**k couldn't she suggest this course of action.
