We have a piece of solid wood worktop (approx 1.2m x 0.6m) that I want to fit to our kitchen wall. I want to fit the long edge against the wall and put two legs at the outer front corners.
I would just like some advice on how to fit it to the wall. Battening or brackets, or both? And if brackets, what kind should I use. The key for us is to do it a cheaply as possible! I am happy to put some battening underneath, as long as it doesn't go too near the outer side edges - in order to stay hidden. It will be going into a solid wall. Also, what size batten would be recommended and any advice on screw lengths for the batten/brackets would be much appreciated?

Re: Advice on fitting solid wood worktop/bar
you need both really
a piece of 2x1 will be fine, cut it 100mm short on each side so it will be hidden then 3 40mm brackets
screws 3" for 2x1 and 1" for brackets

Thanks for that advice. Perfect detail.
Just one last thing, should I be fitting the brackets to the 2x1 or the wall? I assume the 2x1 as there are 3 brackets. If it should be the wall, where do I put the 3rd bracket, assuming I put one either side of the 2x1?

If it is only 600mm wide and fixed well to the wall, you should get away with one breakfast bar leg in the middle of the other end, set in a little. You will find two legs will cut down on the amount of space for people to sit at it.
