5 lever mortice sashlock
Hello,
I am having problems with the lock on the front door, it is a 5 lever mortice sashlock. It is becoming more and more difficult to lock and unlock, I have 3 keys and one particular key will open the door from both sides but will only lock the door from one side!
Sometimes it takes lots of jiggling with the key to get the door to lock or unlock.
If I remove the lock is it possible to take it apart and service/clean inside or is it best to purchase a new lock? I have tried oiling it with some WD40 but with no success.
Thanks

take the lock out of the rebate and measure the depth it will tell you if it is 2 1/2" or 3", or measure the distance from the door edge to the key hole, which will tell you what type, if it is about 44mm then it is a 2 1/2" (I think).jackster wrote:Hi, I just squirted some oil in the keyhole.
I am due to replace it asap, not sure if it is a 2.5 inch or 3 inch, so will probably get one of each from the ironmongers, then take back the one that I do not use!
Thanks for the replies

Took me a little longer than anticipated as the new lock was slightly thicker then the old one and the face plate was also thicker. After a few minutes ( about 45 ) with the wood chisels and hammer it fit perfectlypitbull wrote:So how did you get on jackster.
As mentioned in previous posts it could of cost me dearly if it had siezed shut
I'm was thinking of getting a joiner from here -

For about £25 you buy a new set of levers, rather than a new 5 lever lock at £50 (its called going to a proper locksmith)
split the lock body, change the levers, job done
I earned £90 three weeks ago doing it, i paid for additional keys and a follower as well in the figure
