Vista re-start problems ?

Morning all,

Yesterday my wife and I moved the home office around and in doing so, moved our Packard Bell PC from one side of the room to another.
Having plugged all the leads back in and starting it up, I accidentally knocked the plug out the wall turning it off mid start up.

So on starting it again, I began to get all sorts of error messages such as Windows did not shut down properly.

To cut a long story short, we determined that a partial re-boot would be in order as we didnt want to lose all our photos / documents etc.. Having now down that, we inadvertently set up a whole new user ID rather than use our old existing one.

So now I have a perfectly functioning PC that is 'factory fresh', brand new desk top no Microsoft Office, no photos, no music etc. Aaargh !!

However, I can find our old user ID using the 'explore' function, where all our photos and doc are indeed still there thank God

Only problem is, I cant for the life of me see how to tell the computer to use this old log in ID on start up rather than the new one we set up

Can anyone talk me through a quick fix - I mucked about with User profiles in the control panel last night, even used a 'netplwiz' command code but all to no avail

Many thanks, Phil.

You know the old user ID?
So just go to the start menu and instead of choosing "shut down" choose "log off". That should take you back to a login screen where you can use the old user ID to log back in again.
