REPLACING A CEILING ROSE (connector question)

Post by KORNSTER »

So, if I am to replace a ceiling rose with a modern light fitting, is it acceptable to simply connect loop supply cables in a terminal block or is there another, more suitable (regulation) method.

I will be having a periodicinspection/test on my house wiring and want to be sure that it is ok to use terminal strip in new, modern light fittings i.e - that it complies with regulations.

Thanks in advance for any info'.

The electrical rules and regulations are often open to interpretation and two different people will often give different answers.

Here is mine-

If the wires are in the light fitting then terminating them into a terminal block is acceptable in my opinion.

The rules say that it has to be accessable for inspection and so as long as it is in the light fitting then it should be fine.

Bit if you had one of the modern fittings where you could not get all the wires into the fitting it is best to terminate them into a chocbox and push this into the void above and then use a single piece to terminate into the light fitting, so you should not use a terminal connector if you intend to push it into the void above the light fitting.

Hopefully one of the sparks will confirm this
