I fit alot of bathrooms and the tiles seem to be getting bigger and bigger. I use a tiler when he is available but he is family and has to travel so he likes to do the job in a day, leaving me with a few bits to tidy up myself.

I have had enough of my old cheap slide cutter and was hoping for some advice on a new one which will cut the 600mm tiles people seem to choose.

Is this one a good buy, or should I look elsewhere?

Rubi are good tile cutters. I have the TS and so can't comment on this one you have linked to. It is about half the price of the TS one I have.

As long as it works fine then combined with a 4.5 inch angle grinder, you will be hot to trot. Plus a blade for the grinder of course lol.

i use a BIG CLINKER and have no problems with that!

Depends on how much tiling you do. The Rubi Star is in the budget range of cutters from Rubi and the breaker is not the best but if you're only going to use it a couple of times a year then go for it. But I would opt for the Rubi TS-Plus or the Rubi TX series which are superior.

If you want a half decent cutter in that price range that won't break the bank then I would suggest (as above) the big clinker over the Rubi Star series

The jaw strength of those Rubi star snappers isn't so good. I've got TS60+, used to have TS50+ but, like you say the tiles are getting bigger and 600mm is commonplace these days.

Rubi, are the only scribe cutters to have, the TS60 with a 10mm wheel cuts most 600 format tiles.

Have to say the TS is the one to have, just depends how much you will use it now and in the future so that you can justify the cost.

Right for you depends on what you want to cut, how often you're going to use it and how much you want to spend. My opinion is:
Big Clinker will cut all ceramics and most porcelain and is good value.
Rubi is a middle of the road pro cutter but occasionally struggles on the harder porcelains. Maybe TS60 Plus or TX700N.
Sigma 3B is a top of the range, pro cutter. Cuts even the hardest porcelain, will last forever. Montolit Masterpuima 63 is similar.

It would be a good idea for you to test a few out before you buy. Rubi often do demos on trade days at tile distributors.

uh oh I think you just started the whole Rubi v Sigma debate

got my rubi ts60 for £100 cash ffom my tile suplier last christmas(goes towards their christmas drinks) top bit of kit

To be honest Colour, the TX700n is crap, have had two in 5 years and both cast breaker systems have cracked and broken in the end, the TX1200 breaker is better quality and sturdier, as you can imagine but the cost is not for the faint hearted

all the more reason to invest in a proper dry cutter...Sigma...
