Reclaimed Parquet Flooring

Here is the DIY job I am most proud of..First I had to completely flatten the floor by replacing a couple of floorboards and nailing laminate flooring to the floorboards (perpendicular to them). Then I covered the whole floor with hardboard. Once it was all completely flat, I sanded all the concrete and bitumen off each block, sorted them into groups of 6 matching (there is quite a big variation in the length of the blocks). Then I glued them down like completing a big jigsaw. It took a year and a half of weekends! Now it is finished I am going to give it a good scrub and then varnish it. It's 25 square metres of vintage 1970's teak. I reckon it's gonna come up a treat...

Im struggling to find a weekend to do that sort of thing, let alone a years worth!

Looks like the tops wants leveling off with a sander?

The whole thing could be sanded, but I'm not sure. It looks nice and vintage as it is- don't really want it to look new.

Also, I'm worried that if I attack it with a floor sander then blocks will come unstuck and fly all over the place!

I'm thinking a couple of thick coats of plastic floor coating will top it off.

I wouldn't do anything with it, other than polish every now and again.

it actually looks like an old thin parquet that was sold in the likes of focus 15+ years ago. i put them down in several houses even my mums which she still has. she sanded hers down and stained a border around then varnished the lot, it looked ok, nothing like the real block though.

What adhesive did you use? And i take it you applied it with a notched trowel?
