How do you protect them from the varnish?

Take them off before varnishing the floor....?
Record (now Irwin) did some beauties, no doubt one of the best. But no change from £100 for sure. Then you probably want a pair
Theres a few lever types, but they can be a bit awkward if working on your own.
Most hire shops do them if it is something thats rarely used.

So how do you keep them 'viced' together if you take the vice off, won't they just spring out again?

sorry Jag cudnt resist that one

Hitch, i basically thoguht the same, about £100 each for the ones i have used b4. they had two sprung loaded grips on them that tighten the more you wind out the lever tightening the boards together.
(jag, i varnish the tongue & groove part before i clamp them, then if they did actually contract they are still varnished)

So they're for folks that aren't strong enough to pull the boards together.Rich-Ando wrote:Jaeger_S2k wrote:So how do you keep them 'viced' together if you take the vice off, won't they just spring out again?![]()

I suppose they'd be really popular with women?

yes m8, they are really strong ones but generally new builds are crap and they use chipboard instead of floorboard. any plumber or sparks will tell you how bad this stuff is.yourweb wrote:This one looks like a vice. Never seen them before. Do you use them on both new and old construction? Installing wood floors.Hitch wrote:I did a quick google earlier, found £126 exvat

however, i am not a weak person, trust me.
that's the whole reason i thought i would post and ask m8. imho they are 2-3X what they are worth. at the end of the day they are normal vice's with two ratchet like clamps on the side.ultimatehandyman wrote:I can't see why they are so expensive, there is nothing to themHitch wrote:I did a quick google earlier, found £126 exvat
