I have a hp DV5 laptop which was working fine till last nite. all of a sudden it switched off and now won't boot up while connected to mains. I tried booting it on the battery and it booted up fine.
when i connect the charger to the laptop with the battery still installed it doesn't indicate that the battery is getting charged. However, the indicator light for the charger connection on the laptop does light up.
I am hoping its just the dc female connector on the laptop that is faulty and not the board.
Any help in this regard would be much appreciated. Thx in advance.

Re: laptop not booting on mains but working fine on battery
It sounds to be a break in the circuit somewhere between the charger and the connection, as you say.
You may have dragged the lead and broken a wire either in the lead or on the motherboard connection.
Unless you can check that there is low voltage output from the charger at the computer end of the lead, which would either eliminate the charger as the guilty party, or prove that the wire from the charger is at fault, then it looks like a trip to a local computer shop. Preferably not one of the big ones.
