I have fitted all my other worktops in my new kitchen, but would like advice on the last 2. They fit into a corner so will need to be butted together, and I dont want one of those horrible looking metal bars that fit between them . I would like advice on how easy it is to cut them with a router and butt them close together?? the reason im asking is that I have never done this before and also as i would need to invest in a router would one costing about £50 be up to the job??? or do i get someone in to do it??

Get someone in to do it, a £50.00 router will not be man enough for the job, and you need a JIG and the correct router bit. There is also a possibility that the corner will not be perfectly square, so the worktops may also need to be scribed to get a good fit and joint.

I am no expert just an enthusiastic DIYER, i am sure someone more knowledgeable than me can offer advice, but that is the situation i had in my kitchen with three worktops and i got a local chap to come and do it. Two joints, and scribe 2 of the three worktops due to the room not being square.

Looks good, much better than nasty metals strips.

I would also say get someone to do it for you, As has been said you need a powerful router, a router jig and a new cutter that will be buggered.

Any ideas approx how much someone will charge to fit the two worktops together??? am i looking at paying a chippy a days rate?

What are the worktops, solid timber or laminate?

they are laminate

somebody i know just does worktop joints all day long and charges an extortionate rate for it but i usually charge about £85 for one joint on it's own and then £50 each for more while i am there. it takes a lot to set up and there is a lot of cleaning up to do afterwards. choose a sunny day and try to get it done outside.
