Tiling shed concrete floor

Post by Hardip »

We are looking at tiling up our shed floor but I have reservations about this.

It is concreted and had an initial coat of concrete paint. A couple of years ago, I repainted it and that layer is starting to peel back though the original seems intact.

What are my options with such a floor state to achieve successful adhesion?

It all depends on whether there is a damp proof membrane below the screed. If damp can penetrate then it will work to the surface and evaporate but any surface will deteriorate over time. Clearly putting tiles down will accumulate damp and the floor will fail. You will need to seal the floor first and I am not sure what the best product would be to achieve this.

It has to be said though, is it really necessary to tile a shed floor?
