tongue & groove - correct laying

just a curiosity question to make sure i have it the right way: -
on tongue & groove floorboards you have two thicknesses on the tongue. is it the thinner side floor down (joist side)

Often the underside is marked from the maching process.... any clues from that?
Another thing, i have noticed a few times, the underside is machined very slightly furher in than the top, making a nice tight joint on the top. Some wickes stuff i used once was like that.

also, thanks for confirming what i thought, the thin side down and thick side up to produce a tight fit.
i just wanted to confirm it before i added it to the tutorial.

dont bother with lookinh at the board. look at what is printed on the board
