Tiling a newly rendered wall

Does anyone out there know the technical term for striping a rendered wall before applying tiles to get a better grip. The term scarifying comes to mind but I can't confirm this at any source.

It's definately called scarifying when you do this to plaster or render to accept another coat on top, so it would make sense to me if it was the same when applying tiles onto the render.

devil floating is what should have been done... same as what you'd do before you skim it...
do it as your floating up...
a devil float is just a plastic float with a few screws in it..
