Ahwoo,
Luck man there.
What happened, I mean did the wood flick, causing your hand to go into the saw blade?
Today my finger tips are mighty sensitive, I'm suffering 2 fold the more I work the more I remove skin layers (just wearing it away) and with the nerves already sensitive, they've got less protection.

Although that looks very painful, you were very lucky there DD.
I'll be more careful when I use my chopsaw in future now.

from full speed saw blade stops dead ONLY MOMENTARILY (in 1 24th of a revolution if the blade has 24 teeth)
all the energy has to go somewhere, the wood ususally, in the same time span. the maths on my saw say the energy transfer took one 6000th of a second.
Once freed the saw continues to spin, my injury clearly shows at least 6 teeth went through my finger
many things can happen your body cant react in that time. you dont get to choose. Broken hand / lost fingers / damaged fingers / smashed timber and flying splinters OR pure luck
this time i got the damaged finger and i feel lucky.
Dont dismiss flying splinters, they kill people (same as they did in naval battles in nelsons time). A carpenter down the road had to organise an ambulance for a mate who had a splinter stuck in his skull from chopsaw (he lived)

Have you checked your Rottery Ticket?
Glad the luck was with you.
The reaction time is similar when you know your planing your fingers to stop doing it!
