Which would you do, threshold Question

Post by Jaeger_S2k »

Hi,
Have a question and it's paining me.

I have a run of tiles which if I centre in the back door and the door to the kitchen will leave me a cut tile at the threshold to the garage. Doorway on right hand wall.

Drawing 1.

I can use a full tile through the garage threshold which will throw the doorway tiles off centre which layout would you run with.

Do you have to stop the tiles where you have indicated on the left hand side?
Wondering what floor covering would be in each corner there and it if would look nice to take the tiles right to the walls in those recesses and that would take care of the smaller cuts on the right (or is it a wall that isn't shown)

I guess I am missing something

of the two options shown, 1st looks better to me as well
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Ah,
I wasn't clear enough, I knew and asumed you woul. I only showed the 'problem' area, sorry.

Now 'The Boss' has come home and suggested I start at he wall (drawing 3)

You know I think she might be right :? and I was just making it complicated for myself?

Think Option 3 works better then 1 or 2 to be honest as far as the "problem area" goes - but .....

I think that the garage threshold will always bug you with that sliver on one side.

How about moving the tile line down a little to get an even slver each side of the threshold and that would make the top and bottm room extremes equal cuts maybe? Dunno (but I think that uneven threshold treatment will still bug !)

Reckon with that area, A "washboy" would be a worthwhile buy as well as per you post about it :thumbright:

I never start a full tile against a wall.

Always assume that the walls are out........they usually are

What is the best way to determine the straight line for tiles - do you take an existing wall, a threshold, do diagonals from corner to corner and work it out from there? never known how the pros work that!

Will be working below the plaster board so have around 25-30mm adjustment area.

The skirting will then sit on top of the tiles closing any cuts edges, well that's the plan.

Start by measuring the centre of the floor then start the tiles at the centre, either have the centre of a grout line as your centre or the centre of a tile as your centre, whichever leaves the best cut.

Drwaing 3 looks OK but you need to move the grout line up by about a quarter of a tile to get the cuts on the bottom and top wall to the same size
