My local chinese takeaway has had a new uPVC door fitted and I took this pic today. How kind of them to add operating instructions in English.......note the exclamation mark as if to say; ''Dear customer, we are trotally fred-up with you prushing the handle down, prease, prease, you must prush it up, stupid''

Now I'm no expert but I think the solution is to remove the two screws, rotate the handle 180 degrees then refit........right?

No southwood that won't work, because there's a keyhole at the bottom, for a key.

It the wrong handed handle.

Depends on whether the handle is free spinning or not - there may be a washer on the back of the plate that needs removing too.

I assumed the handle would rotate independently of the 'lock plate' so that the handle would be 180 deg and the keyhole would be in the same position.

Sh*t, you beat me too it! I was just about to grab the shed keys to get a screwdriver and check!

You can see the outside handle in the correct position.
Most handles I have seen are reversible, all it needs is releasing the holding screw, withdrawing the spindle,handle attached and revolving it 90% then re-attaching it.

PMSL they only have to unscrew the handle move to the correct position and do the screws back up.Very very rare they are handed, ive not seen any handed ones unless they are brass scroll type things.

In my younger days they were all handed lockie, I did wonder whether they would still be.

I tried to replicate this on my backdoor lock and it wouldn't work. Each handle is self-sprung with a circlip and washer so that the handle only moves about 45 degs up or 45 degs down, it won't rotate 180 degs independently of the lock plate with the keyhole in it. It doesn't appear to be a 'handed' issue either because if it was removed and fitted outside then it would still be up to open (as the label says) and that wouldn't be right either. Something strange at Wok Ever.

I'd get the correct handed handle from the local builders centre and take it with me next time I'm hungry - tell them you'll sort the door in return for a free dinner!

Im, talking about upvc door handles.

So am I. My door is also uPVC.

That handle in the picture is definately not handed.They have a small sprung plastic insert inside and when you remove the spindle you can just turn the handle around to which side you need it.Take a look on google and you will see what i mean about the scrolly type handles being the only handed ones for upvc.
Yours must be some old obsolete type as you just dont get anything like that now, thankfully, or you would need to carry far too much stock.

They put them that way up so dogs can't put a paw on them and open it, to escape...
