are they on a par with trend jigs? just took delivery today of a kitchen from howdens. and they said they would supply a trend jig. but the box thats arrived has a unika stamp on it.

they said the trend jig would be a 1001 model. but when i google it all i can find is the carry cases for the 1002 jig.

do the staff at howdens need their arses kicked? lol

Which one? they make a few or at least they used to, i am not a great lover of the old trend one as they have closed bolt ends, so you cannot run in from the ends when working. Mind the trend one i have is a few years old so they could have changed it.

I love my trend jig........................I also love the unika ones I have lol.

The unika ones do have the shabbier plastic pegs but at the end of the day, pegs are only butted up to and not rammed onto edges so they bend. In fact with good marking out, you don't even need pegs.

I agree with royaloakcarpentry on this one.

It doesnt matter what the pegs are made from... nylon or alloy, you will end up loosing them anyway, trust me, I have gone through loads of em, a 10mm drill bit is my emergancy w/top jig pin. :?

As long as the jig is made from a solid laminate (a.f.a.i.k. the unika ones are) it will not warp/twist out of shape so you are good to go.

I'd kick up a fuss, I have the 1001 and the difference in price from that and the unika is about £150!! What size is the unika they have given you too? As the trend as you would imagine is 1m. The unika is fine but it's a bit of a low stunt to pull, either keep the unika and ask for £150 credit, or send it back for the trend

i sent it back in the end. and ordered a trend jig of some website or other.

it turned up broken in half lol. so got sent back and another delivered.

i ordered a makita router from itslondon. spoke with them on the phone and they said they would include a 30mm guide bush for free.

fantastic i thought. lol only when i tried it all together the guide bush didnt fit. so i had to go out and get a trend uni base. and those things are a p*ss on and a half.

still... the trend 1002 jig is great. i did the best joints ive ever done with it. using 3 joint bolts seems to make a big difference. i also biscuited it together. and as i was unable to get some unika colourfill (worktops were some sort of green colour) i used clear silicone. gives a longer working time before it sets and the joins are nigh on invisible.

the tiler called by the other day and i thought he was getting rather aroused when he was running his fingers over the joint haha
