Hilti DX460...get one!!

Got a hilti dx460 from the USA brand new from ebay. Tried it out last week and bloody hell its powerful, nailed simpson heavy duty angle brackets to a rsj to recieve doubled timber joists. The angle bracket must be at least 3mm thick, the rsj 10mm min in the web, put a 27mm nail right through the lot. Red cartridge on full !! Comes with a scary but awesome looking MX72 magazine.

Welcome the the forum.
Do you need a licence for a Hilti Gun, a guy at work says that you do
He told me once how a guy fired a nail into a wall, only to find out it was a stud partition and that the bolt travelled through 6 of these stud partitions before stopping, anyone in it's way would of been seriously injured.
What a great tool though, all that power to fire a nail into solid steel!
Was the gun expensive?

I have never owned a Hilti Gun but I have used them before, and you have to think SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY all the time, because if used incorrectly they are extremely dangerous!!

I hear a lot of interesting comments about hilti gear.....especially the prices
Trouble is you can never get any listings for prices. Everything is POA. I don't want to enquire in case of being stalked by some salesman over the phone for the next 6 months!

The list price comes in at around £700 here in the uk. Got mine for £266 from ebay and got it shipped over from New Jersey. Only down side, had to pay customs duty/vat,came in at an extra £75 but still not bad for a brand new gun.

The Hilti sales rep can give you a free safety course if you provide proof of purchase in your name, will even come on site! In the wrong hands it can be dangerous but the the new 460 has a lot of safety features. It is virtually impossible to shoot a nail all the way through base material. Oh by the way don't ever fire into engineering bricks......they explode..!!

Hello Ultimate' thanks for the welcome. Not sure about the licence, anyone can buy and use one, even the missus, safety issues are included in the manual. Nail velocity is a bit under 100m/ sec which is faster than a 9mm round from an Uzi I think !!

I think you are supposed to have a ticket to buy the cartridges...rather than have the gun...?

I am sure the Hilti guns have been debated in the house of commons because they could be adapted for use by terrorists etc.
Not sure what the outcome was, but that is one serious piece of kit

Being getting my cartridges from ebay mostly, will ask the guy at the Trav Perk hire shop if you need a ticket for buying cartridges or even to hire a hilti gun. Iv'e used the older dx450 many a time in the past but that was the time when you could hire chainsaws without the safety trousers!
