FINALLY GOT A ROUTER!

I took your advice from my previous posts about 'which router' and have got myself a 2nd hand Makita 3612C 1/2" for a bargain price. After reading some good reviews I'm happy with my purchase and just need to get myself a 30mm guide bush for it. Is there a standard one for this model? All I wanted to ask was for any of you that use this router or have used it in the past, which speed setting (1-5) is best for cutting worktop. 40mm laminate. :dunno:

i use speed 2 and cut 6mm per pass keeps heat out of the cutter

ive seen people do highspeed and 10mm per pass and after 1 joint the cutter is blunt/burned

get some scrap and do alittle practicing to see what suits you

Either get some cheap bits a throw after every other joint, or get some decenct ones and spray with PTFE every now and again whilst cutting extends the life quite a bit.

I thought you said in your other post you had a trend multi-base? that comes with a 30mm guide bush if I remember rightly

Thanks for the help and advice. No, I haven't got a trend multibase. I may have suggested possibly getting one though in previous posts.

those trend multi bases are awkward. and i find the cutter is right on the limit on my router for cutting work tops.

ill be buying a makita guide bush for mine. its london sent trend guide bushes but they are to small to fit into the base
