Matwell sizes

Am thinking of fitting a matwell inside the hall at my front door entrance. Floor in hall was going to be solid oak but now going for a heavy duty 12mm laminate. Have some heavy duty kids so that was the major factor in that decision!

What are the standard sizes for matwells and are they a good idea for breaching the step into a laminate floor from outside ?

Had intended to make up a frame so need to know what size it should be. Or would it be better to just leave an ordinary mat over the laminate?

I'd go for the second option, but would also use some of the anti slip tape to ensure that the mat does not slide ontop of the laminate.

Thanks UHM.

Just realised second option might stop my front door from opening due to the increase in floor height i.e. If I just put a mat on top of the floor then the door clearance will be tight. :cussing:
