hi bought the cheap aclyric bath panels from b and q and have decided i shouldnt have been so cheap,so......

looking to use mdf firstly for the main panel of the bath and the end panel, I will cut so the top section slips under the bath, and then use batons on the bottom, will screw down there and then use silicone to fix the top part to the underside lip of the bath, sound ok so far?

my plan then is to use mosiac style tiles on this mdf with correct beading at the joint to give a good finish. My plan is to seal the panels pre tiled all around, then after the tiles are in, is this also ok?

Any suggestions/recommendations or tricks of the trade or even things to watch out for on the above job would be greatly appreciated

Don't use MDF, it is not suitable for tiling onto, and is unstable, any water gets in there you will end up with mush and tiles on the floor. Use WBP Plywod, and make sure you have an access panel or a way of removing the panels in case you need to get to waste pipes or the hot & cold.

I'd second the use of WPB ply - much more stable.

Rather than screw the panels in place, use magnets (preferable rare earth magnets - super strong!) for a cleaner finish.

To be honest rather than use WBP ply i'd use a tile backer board, cheaper and much more suited to the job.

But yeah, don't even contemplate tiling on to MDF or using it in a wet area at all

use 6mm hardie backerboard.....not mdf or wbp ply....noooo...

cut section out and use..magnet section from,homelux/shulter etc..for easy acess..

what type off bath is it....do the supports, bevel out by the bath edge?

re:mosiac tiling...use a white adhesive for the mossy tiles and the correct serator..3/4mm one you will need..
